Dear members,
As noted in our Subscriptions letter dated 30 August 2024, I decided to split up the communications so that I
could provide more information on the ongoing refurbishment works to the Clubhouse. I’m happy to
communicate that the Club are days away from the project being fully signed off. Like most projects of this
scale, it faced delays along the way, but the important thing is that we now have a facility that we can all be
proud of. When I say “we”, I mean every one of our members, players, volunteers, coaches and committee
members. The project would not have been possible if certain people didn’t give so much of their time to the
cause.
From the grant application process, liaising with South Dublin County Council, the drawings & architect
phase, the planning permission application, reviewing tender applications, obtaining financing and getting to
a position of being able to give the builder the go-ahead, it took a lot of early mornings, late nights and
commitment from several people. Pat Harley and Chris Oglesby deserve a huge amount of praise. From the
moment the grant was approved, they have led the charge on this project. I also owe their families a lot of
gratitude for supporting them while they gave so much time ensuring we all have this great facility.
A big thank you must also go to our close neighbours Naomh Jude who opened their clubhouse to our teams
during the construction work. I look forward to returning the favour if needed in the future!
It was great to see a lot of parents, coaches and young players visit the facility on Sunday for a quick tour, to
whet the appetite! I have added some pictures in the appendix for those who could not attend.
The Club’s large fundraiser will take place this weekend and I hope to see as many people as possible on
Sunday night. This is the first large fundraiser since our Strictly Come Dancing back in 2015. Specific details of
the night will be shared via WhatsApp today as well as through our social media platforms. I would like to
thank the Fundraising Committee for all their efforts in arranging the raffle and pushing ticket sales over the
last couple of months. I appreciate that tickets first went on sale in May and this was a conscious decision
the Club made to ensure that our members and, in particular our parents were not being bombarded with
requests for cash during the summer months, given that it’s an expensive time of year as it is! Andy McNulty,
Peter Nolan, Albert Johnston, Keith McDonald and Jonathan Feighery deserve great praise for the time and
effort spent on making sure that nothing has been left to chance. If you haven’t bought a ticket, please do
so, all money raised will go directly back into the running of the Club.
To our wonderful sponsors, from the raffle to the building work, it always amazes me at how generous
people are. I really appreciate the support of all, in particular, Chris Pratt (Spirit Ford), Stuart Fagan
(NutriQuick), Gareth Cox (Glenhaze), Stephen Van Loon (Templeogue Décor), Chris and Stephen Oglesby
(Oglesby Decorators), Horkans SuperValu, Dave Donnelly and Tony Macari. There are many more as well
who wish to remain anonymous.

Some other updates from the last couple of months:
Our Mini-World Cup was a wonderful couple of weeks of football and was a great way to close out last
season. We had over 400 girls and boys take part which included the inaugural girls only competition. We
had 61 girls take part in the Girls only competition with some also competing in the boys’ and girls’
competition. As part of the Mini-World Cup application, the Club made a facility available for our members
to donate to our chosen charity this year, “St. Josephs Special School“. As a result of your generosity, the
Club transferred €4,200 to our chosen charity a couple of weeks ago. A big thank you to all who donated.
At the end of August, ENG hosted another one of their competitions on Pitch 23. This competition saw 44
teams compete from all over Ireland for a place in the International Cup finals in 2025. Two of our teams
qualified after making the finals in their respective age groups. Big congratulations to Clive, Barry and Phily
and their 2014 and 2016 groups. Best of luck in London next year!
Last Sunday, our over 35s capped another great season by retaining The Amateur Cup at the Oscar Traynor
Centre. The lads also had a successful league campaign, pipping their nearest rivals to win the league by two
points. Having won the Over 35s Leinster Cup last season, we qualified for the Leinster Senior Cup. Having
battled past the champions of Kildare and Meath in rounds 1 and 2, we face Inchicore Athletic in Tymon Park
tonight, kick-off is 7.45pm and all support is welcome. No other over 35s team has progressed as far in this
tournament.
For the players and parents that are new to our Club, a huge welcome from us all. As an Executive
Committee, we continue to work hard to ensure we have the best facilities available for use by our
members. In addition to the refurbishment of the Clubhouse, we are working in the background on the
following:
 Pitch 23 – new irrigation system / ball stops / storage cage
 Replacement lighting and fencing for our Astro and carpark
 The resurfacing of our Car park and new gates
 Viewing area for the Astro
The Club were successful in the latest round of the Sports Capital Grants and were awarded €34k which will
be made available to us in the new year for some of the above projects.
Let’s hope this is another successful season for our Club.
Gavin Jones,
Chairman, Templeogue United.
